We are seeking applicants to fill a vacancy for an apartment building owner / operator representative on the Construction Codes Advisory Board. The application deadline is June 15, 2015.
We rely heavily on the advice of professionals and citizens to develop workable construction codes. CCAB provides input about proposed code amendments and Director’s Rules related to technical codes. Its input is based on the members’ professional experience and point of view.
CCAB is a volunteer board. Its 13 members are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council. Its authority comes from Seattle Building Code Section 105. CCAB is also available to advise us when permit applicants are unsatisfied with our decisions and want another opinion. A CCAB subcommittee, the Innovation Advisory Committee, reviews energy efficient development proposals that are not covered by the technical codes.
Each board member serves a three-year term. Because the code requires us to stagger the terms, we recruit new members every year to fill the expired terms. If you think you might be interested in serving on CCAB, watch the City's Boards and Commissions page for information about openings.
Meetings are scheduled for the first and third Thursday of every month, as needed.
For more information, read Tip 332, Review of DPD Decisions by the Construction Codes Advisory Board, or these code sections: Section 103.11 of the Seattle Building Code, Section 110.2 of the Seattle Mechanical Code, Sections C109.2 and R109.2 of the Seattle Energy Code, and Section 80.16 of the Seattle Electrical Code.
Each board member represents a profession or the general public. CCAB has the following positions:
In addition to these positions, the Seattle Fire Department, Seattle City Light, and Public Health - Seattle & King County are represented by non-voting members.
