Citizens Advisory Committee Meetings:

DPD has convened a Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC), made up of a wide range of stakeholders, to provide input on the Shoreline Master Program update. Together with the public visioning process and DPD's technical analysis, the Committee will help shape policy affecting Seattle's shoreline jurisdiction. Committee meetings are open to the public and will be held in Room 4060 in Seattle Municipal Tower. CAC meeting schedule can be viewed here. Past Events

Visioning Workshops
The Seattle Department of Planning and Development (DPD) hosted seven community workshops to help shape a vision for the future of Seattle’s shorelines. Using input from these workshops and a telephone survey of randomly selected citizens, DPD will publish a Vision Report that will inform the SMP update process.

Workshops were held at seven locations throughout the City. At each workshop, City staff provided background on the Shoreline Master Program update and presented results from a recently completed shoreline inventory. Participants were asked to work in small groups to discuss issues and opportunities presented by each meeting’s shoreline area. Additionally, participants considered the City’s shorelines as a whole, and how competing interests might be balanced more effectively.

The main questions that will were addressed at the workshops were:

  • What are the preferred uses of the sub-region’s shoreline? Of the City’s shorelines?
  • What shoreline natural resources need to be protected in the sub-region?
  • Where are the opportunities for enhancing public access in the sub-region?
  • What will successful management of the shoreline sub-region look like in the future?

Draft Vision Report

Open House
DPD hosted a public open house to present information on the new state guidelines for SMP updates, and our plan for public participation on November 7, 2007, 5:30-7:30 p.m., Seattle City Hall. Download the invitation, PowerPoint presentation, presentation boards and background sheet.
