Project Coordination

Collaboration
CityDesign serves as a conduit for effective urban design collaboration. It links diverse interests and organizations to promote design excellence in the public realm.

Taylor Avenue Open Space
CityDesign worked with a private developer, a multidisciplinary design team and City departments to build a block-long street park as part of the Taylor Avenue Open Space project.

Development Facilitation
Through the hosting of public workshops, forums and charrettes, CityDesign facilitates problem-solving, networking and building leadership within the urban design community.

Beacon Hill
CityDesign hosted a community charrette in September 2006 to explore strategies to create a neighborhood focal point around S. Lander street in Seattle’s Beacon Hill neighborhood.

See the preliminary design options.

600 Wall Street

2100 Westlake
CityDesign brought together private development, the South Lake Union streetcar design team, and transportation experts to transform Ninth Avenue -- a thoroughfare previously inhospitable for pedestrians -- into a, narrow, low-speed street with wide sidewalks, generous landscaping and other pedestrian amenities. (Completion date 2007.)

Bell Street
In close coordination with the Belltown neighborhood, CityDesign is currently creating a Street Design Concept Plan for this important east/west pedestrian connection. The goal of the plan is to crate a walkable, comfortable, and well landscaped pedestrian link between Elliott Bay and Denny Park. (Completion date 2016, developed incrementally.)

Freeway Park and Seneca Tower
CityDesign collaborated with private development interests, the City's Design Review team and the Parks Department to develop a new pedestrian bridge and entrance into the southern end of Freeway Park. (Completion date 2008.)
Van Gogh Ecocharrette
CityDesign -- in consultation with the Seattle Department of Transportation -- is currently exploring ways of increasing open space and pedestrian amenities in the right-of-way to complement a proposed highrise residential tower at 6th and Wall. (Completion date 2008.)

Consultation
As Seattle's repository of urban design plans and strategies, CityDesign provides design direction for private development.

The Blue Ring
CityDesign created The Blue Ring, an open space strategy for Seattle's Center City which guides new development and development of the public realm in the Center City.
