While quite unconventional in form and color, EMP nonetheless expresses its public nature by the dramatic forms and large civic scale of the building. The building is accessible on all sides, and is designed with no "back" giving it an important presence on both the adjacent street and the Seattle Center campus. Like many civic buildings, major entrances and openings are substantial in scale, such as the large window facing northeast and the opening to accommodate the Monorail. With their over-scaled design, these feature give the building a civic presence and provide a relationship to significant urban features in the surrounding area. The façade shown above, facing Seattle Center, employs the colors and character, albeit in a modern way, of the adjacent amusement park. |
