Bio: Throughout her career Sandra has fed her creative side through her architectural design work, her inquisitive side through teaching and research and her ethical values through her focus on sustainability and social equity. She spearheaded the “Sustaining Affordable Communities” initiative at Environmental Works, where she practiced architecture for seven years. While there she was the sustainability coordinator for the country’s first LEED Certified Affordable Housing project, Traugott Terrace, and the Project Architect for a recent LEED Gold affordable housing project in Bellingham. Through an ongoing post-occupancy study, she is investigating how well these, and other green buildings, are performing. Fun Fact: Consistently choosing the outdoors over home repair, Sandra spends her free time backpacking, climbing mountains or exploring the Sound.

Peter’s experience covers almost all aspects of design and construction. Not only does he have a Bachelor of Architecture and a Masters in Urban Planning, but over his career he has acted as architect, engineer, developer, builder and consultant. He has first-hand knowledge of the value of teamwork. |

After starting his career as a consulting engineer designing “intelligent” buildings, Jayson went on to co-found several companies until coming to embrace the benefits of sustainable practices in the built environment. He has since traveled extensively, including living for a year in Denmark, and has led groups to visit and research leading sustainable developments throughout the world. With a Masters in Sustainable Energy Planning, his specialties are renewable energy, climate change, and sustainable communities. Jayson was recently named as one of Seattle’s Green Leaders for 2007. |

Innovative. Strategic. Collaborative. Rebecca has managed community involvement programs for challenging public and private planning projects involving transportation, land use and sustainable design. She worked for the Seattle Design Commission and the Design Review program prior to becoming a private sector consultant. She specializes in developing outreach programs and public information materials, having designed communication strategies projects such as the redevelopment of Yesler Terrace. With certificates in historic preservation and urban design, Rebecca holds a Master of Urban Planning from the University of Washington and a Bachelor of Science in business administration from the University of New Hampshire.

Brennon has been with the Department of Planning and Development since 2005 where he has been responsible for developing policy and regulations focusing on environmentally critical areas, trees, single family zoning, and sustainable communities. Brennon is also a co-founder of Sustainable Capitol Hill, a neighborhood group dedicated to making Capitol Hill a model for sustainability. Prior to going back to school for planning, he worked on a variety of urban environmental and democracy issues including work with Massachusetts Community Water Watch and coordination of the Boston Youth Vote Coalition. Brennon holds a Masters of Urban Planning from the University of Washington and a Sc.B. in Environmental Engineering from Brown University. |

Thoughtful. Supportive. Steadfast. Jess is the key contact for developing, marketing and implementing DPD’s green permitting programs- Priority Green, including the Living Building Pilot. Previously at DPD, Jess reviewed public and private development projects as a Senior Land Use Planner. He is a member of the American institute of Certified Planners (AICP), a Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional and received a certificate for Low Impact Development Technical Training Program. Jess has over 20 years public and private experience in Planning and Land Use. |

Dave has been with the Department of Planning and Development since 2007, where he has been responsible for developing policy and regulations on landscaping, green stormwater infrastructure, and shorelines. Much of his work has focused on the Seattle Green Factor, Seattle’s innovative landscaping standard that encourages green roofs, permeable paving, and tree preservation. Educated as a landscape architect at the University of Michigan’s School of Natural Resources and Environment, Dave likes to think “outside of the building envelope” about how ecological design can contribute to site development and right-of-way improvements. |

Judicious. Perceptive. Solution-Oriented. If you find areas in City codes that pose challenges with a particular green building technology or strategy, let Kathleen know so she can help DPD address it. Kathleen provides technical assistance on code and permitting issues specific to green building. Her work entails sleuthing out green building code barriers, developing and proposing code revisions and creating staff review resources. In addition, Kathleen is participating in the analysis of the proposed International Green Construction Code, helping to develop it for both a local and national market. Marrying built structure with environmental enhancement has been the basis of Kathleen’s work throughout a career in architecture, contracting and local government. |

Sandy has worked at the Department of Planning and Development for 20 years. As an embedded strategist on the City Green Building team, she works to translate green building policies into functioning programs. Sandy has a Masters degree in City Planning and MBA certificates from Bainbridge Graduate Institute (BGI). At BGI she learned about systems thinking, sustainable business, and how to be an innovative entrepreneur. She applies her planning and systems knowledge to development of permitting programs, responses to climate initiatives and interconnecting the business units in Operations. Sandy is a 15 year member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) and a LEED accredited professional. |
