Boiler & Pressure Vessel Inspections
Overview

The City of Seattle's Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspection Program dates back to at least 1906 (the oldest law found to date).  Currently, our staff consists of four boiler/pressure systems inspectors commissioned by the National Board, one Licensing Inspector and one accounting technician. Their duties include:

  • Inspecting boilers annually and pressure vessels biennially
  • Conducting one-time inspections of residential boiler and pressure vessel installations.  Note: For this purpose, residential means anything from a single family dwelling up to and including a five-unit, multi-family dwelling (apartments, condos, etc.)
  • Conducting specialized inspections for automatic and monitored boiler certification inspections which affect the attendance requirements for particular boilers
  • Conducting licensing inspections
  • Responding to complaints and conducting accident investigations

On this site you will find information about how to apply for a boiler and pressure vessel permit, inspection procedures and resources, key DPD staff contacts, and links to related professional associations, manufacturers and consultants.
