South Lake Union is expected to have grown by 16,000 new jobs and 8,000 new households by 2024. The Department of Planning and Development (DPD) has updated the South Lake Union Neighborhood Plan to prepare for the future growth. As part of that effort, DPD, South Lake Union Friends and Neighbors Community Council and the Cascade Neighborhood Council have identified priorities for the plan’s recommendations.
DPD is sponsoring a open house to discuss the priorities for the South Lake Union Neighborhood Plan recommendations at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 26, at the Naval Reserve Building at Lake Union Park (the “Armory”), located at 860 Terry Ave. N. Opportunities to comment on-line will also be provided by June 26 at: www.seattle.gov/dpd/planning/slu.
The priorities are based on the neighborhood plan’s goals for community character, transportation, parks and open space, housing and sustainable development. The priorities are intended to provide guidance to decision-makers as they seek to implement the recommendations of the neighborhood plan. Key priority issues include:
- support for local businesses and schools
- preservation of neighborhood diversity
- improved pedestrian and bicycle access
- support for parks and open space
- increased affordable housing
