—Is your project designed under a pre-2003 Seattle Building Code? Have you started construction?
As of April 15, 2006, DPD will no longer accept applications for building permit renewal on projects where construction is not substantially underway unless the project complies with the current 2003 Seattle Building Codes. The International Building, Residential, Mechanical and Fuel Gas Codes (I-Codes) with Seattle amendments replaced the 1997 Uniform Codes in Seattle on Aug. 15, 2004.
“Substantially underway” means that work such as excavation, inspections and installation of framing, electrical, mechanical and finish work is being completed on a continuing basis. (See Seattle Building Code (SBC) Section 106.9.2 subsection 3.)
Permits issued under the Uniform Building Code that expire on or after April 15 and that are not substantially under construction will not be renewed. The applicant will be required to apply for a new permit and comply with all current codes. To check your permit status, visit DPD's Permits website, locate the “Check Status” box in the top-right column, and enter your project number, permit number or project address.
