2005 Seattle Electrical Code Adopted
October 6, 2005; updated October 13, 2005

The 2005 Seattle Electrical Code (SEC) will take effect on Oct. 22, 2005.

The 2005 SEC consists of the 2005 National Electrical Code, the Washington State Electrical Code (WAC 96-46B) and Seattle amendments. It includes few new amendments, most significantly:

  • Systems operating at over 600 volts require plan review, regardless of the amperage. Two sets of plans with applications must be submitted.
  • An amendment that adds utility raceways that are metallically connected to other service equipment to the list of equipment required to be bonded.

To accompany the 2005 Electrical Code, DPD has prepared a new Client Assistance Memo, CAM 339, Emergency and Standby Power Systems. The CAM explains the code requirements for emergency, legally required standby, and optional standby power systems. It also coordinates provisions from the Electrical, Building and Fire codes.
