Legislation Would Ban Wireless Cell Antennas in Single Family Zones

As directed by Mayor Nickels, DCLU has prepared draft legislation that would ban minor communication utilities (commonly referred to as cell antennas) in Single Family and Residential Small Lot zones in most situations. The legislation would allow for rare exceptions--when a cell antenna is located completely within a non-single family structure or service cannot be provided otherwise, as required by federal regulations.

The draft legislation, environmental (SEPA) decision, and Director's Report are available below. A draft Director's Rule to clarify certain approval criteria for cellular antennas in all zones will be available for public review by mid June.
