Zoning
DPD is responsible for the body of regulations that govern the use and development of land in Seattle.  Zoning districts specify a category of uses (e.g., single-family residential, multifamily residential, commercial, industrial, etc.) and are applied by ordinance, geographically on the City's official land use map.

Cannabis Zoning Restrictions
The City of Seattle is proposing to establish size restrictions on the growing, processing, and dispensing of cannabis in certain areas of the city.  This proposal is based on the work of an interdepartmental team consisting of City staff and representatives of the Mayor, City Councilmembers, and City Attorney and was developed in response to new State legislation, passed in 2011, that allows the creation of collective gardens, in which groups of qualifying patients can grow, process, and dispense cannabis and cannabis products for medical use.

Land Use Procedure Changes
The City Council is sponsoring legislation that would amend Seattle’s regulations for processing land use permits. The proposed amendments would streamline administration of the Land Use Code and update methods for public notice.

Multifamily Zoning Update
The Multifamily Zoning Update is part of the Mayor's commitment to a comprehensive re-evaluation of Seattle’s Land Use Code.
