Guideline A-9: Location of Parking on Commercial Street Fronts
Parking on a commercial street front should be minimized and where possible should be located behind a building.

Explanation and Examples
Parking located along a commercial street front where pedestrian traffic is desirable lessens the attractiveness of the area to pedestrians and compromises the safety of pedestrians along the street.

Design Guidelines

Thirty design review guidelines for multifamily and commercial buildings--along with neighborhood-specific supplements--form the backbone of the City's Design Review Program in Seattle's neighborhoods. Separate guidelines govern downtown development.

In 2010, DPD will be updating the design guidelines for multifamily and commercial development.
