Green Code Provisions
Overview
What Are Green Code Provisions?
The green code provisions for 2012 focus on long-term green priorities such as water conservation, material conservation, sustainable transportation, and energy conservation. Some examples include promoting recycling and salvage of construction and material waste and flow reductions for plumbing fixtures and fittings.
These provisions are developed in response to sustainable priorities set by Mayor and Council and supported by documents such as the International Green Construction Code, ASHRAE Standard 189.1 Built Green, and LEED.
Provisions will be inserted in existing codes. Those incorporated into our technical codes such as the Seattle Building Code, Seattle Residential Code, or the Uniform Plumbing Code will be adopted in summer of 2013; those provisions applying to the Land Use and Zoning Code will be adopted in late 2013.
We would appreciate public comment on the green code provisions being considered by the City of Seattle or our neighboring jurisdictions to help ensure the proposed provisions are designed to meet their intent and support our communities and environment. Please send public comments directly to Kathleen Petrie (Kathleen.petrie@seattle.gov) or in person at one of our 2 open houses:
