The Seattle Municipal Court Web Portal allows access to case file documents for cases filed after June 23rd, 2014, although some cases prior to that date may have documents on line.

There are three levels of access in the web portal:

  1. Public: The public can access case file documents that have been designated as public.


  2. Attorney and Agency Clerks: Attorneys and their support staff can access public documents, as well as ones designated as quasi-private. In order to access documents at this level, attorneys and support staff need to sign up using the process outlined below. Individuals who have an account and password can follow the public link above and click on the Log in to the SMC Portal link in the right, middle area of the page


  3. Pro Se: Pro Se defendants can access public documents as well as documents designated as quasi-private. In order to access documents at the quasi-private level, pro se defendants need to sign up using the process outlined below. Individuals who have an account and password can follow the public link above and click on the Log in to the SMC Portal link in the right, middle area of the page.

How to Sign Up for Attorney, Agency Clerk, or Pro Se Access

In order to obtain access to documents only available to defendants and their counsel, please go to the
public portal.

  1. Click on Log in to the SMC Portal hyperlink on the right side of the page under the Attorneys and Law Agency Clerks header.
  2. Click on the Need User Account? link on the Sign In page.
  3. Enter your email address where prompted and hit the send button.
  4. You will receive an email with a link that you will need to click in order to continue the log on process.
  5. Please check your Spam folders if you do not receive the email within a few minutes of sending your email address.
  6. Choose a password, confirm that password and hit create user.
  7. Once you have chosen a password, you will be taken to a new webpage that tells you that your account has been successfully created.
  8. Log in to the portal.
  9. Choose the Profile link on the left hand list of links.
  10. Fill out the required information. Please note that support staff (paralegals, investigators, etc.) should sign up as an agency clerk.
  11. Look for an email with instructions on how to complete the authorization process.
