Councilmember Jan Drago
More accountability demanded from SDOT Council member Jan Drago responds to recent SDOT briefing given to the Councils Transportation Committee
Council member Drago released the following statement:
SEATTLE - After six months of deniability, I am glad to see that Director Grace Crunican finally acknowledged there were management problems with her former street-maintenance director, Paul Jackson Jr.
However, that is not enough. As I firmly stated at Tuesdays briefing, I have mounting concerns about the departments day-to-day management. The half-million dollar MFR report, even with redactions, shows that there are management problems.
Now that it has been uncovered, we need to act. Simply releasing a report will not suffice. One of the most critical issues facing our city is how we oversee our roads and streets. Seattle needs to have a well-managed and smart department leading the charge.
From now on, I plan to put an SDOT Directors Report on every City Council Transportation Committee agenda in order to track and monitor the progress and implementation strategy. The MFR report will be used as a tool for reform within the department - and the directors and managers will be held accountable.
