Seattle City Council welcomes new communications manager
SEATTLE – Today, Seattle City Council President Richard Conlin announced the hiring of Debra Carnes who will serve as Communications Manager for the City’s Legislative Department, effective immediately.
Carnes brings more than 20 years of strategic communications experience to the position, with her career encompassing work in both public and private sectors.
Most recently Carnes served as Gov. Chris Gregoire’s speechwriter as well as the governor’s communications director for her re-election campaign. Prior to that, Carnes was the communications director for the Washington Education Association, where she was responsible for internal communications to its 80,000 members, along with directing and leading all external communications, public relations and media efforts.
“We look forward to working with Debra who brings a wealth of experience to this position,” said Council President Richard Conlin. “Her strategic communication skills and her expertise in community engagement are right in line with the Council’s vision.”
“We’re confident that Debra will be a great asset as we work to enhance our communications and broaden the ways we reach out to our constituents in more interactive ways,” added Conlin.
