LICATA SPONSORS FORUM ON SAFE WALKS
Event promotes sidewalks throughout Seattle
SEATTLE— On Tuesday, July 22, 6 p.m., Councilmember Nick Licata is co-sponsoring a pedestrian safety forum with Safe Walks, a coalition of citizens, neighborhoods and advocacy groups in Seattle. Safe Walks is seeking an equitable solution to the problem of providing safe pedestrian passageway throughout the city, especially in neighborhoods in the north and south ends. The forum will help identify sidewalk needs citywide and begin the work of identifying funding sources for those needs. Representatives from the Seattle Department of Transportation, Feet First, and neighborhoods around Seattle will be attending the event. Councilmember Licata, co-chair of the Council’s Pedestrian Safety Committee, said, “I believe that having safe ways to walk in our neighborhoods is a public health and safety issue of major importance.”
