STATEMENT FROM COUNCILMEMBER GODDEN ON
TAXI CAB LEGISLATION
SEATTLE – Today the City Council passed Council Bill 116208 addressing the ripple effects of the high gasoline costs for taxi cab drivers. This legislation increases rates from $0.20 to $0.25 per one tenth of a mile, calculates “wait time” charges at 30 second increments, and increases the flat rate between downtown hotels and the airport from $28 to $32.
“Rising gas prices are making all forms of transportation more expensive for all of us. This legislation is more equitable for people who use taxis to travel shorter distances and it will alleviate some of the burden of increased fuel costs on taxi cab drivers.” said Councilmember Jean Godden, chair of the Finance and Budget Committee.
The legislation is available through the City Clerk’s Office at (206) 684-8344 or on the clerks’ website
