CITY RETIREMENT SYSTEM HIRES NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Cecelia M. Carter, current CEO of the Public School Retirement System of the School District of Kansas City, Missouri, is named as new Executive Director
SEATTLE — Councilmember Richard McIver, chair of the Retirement Board of Administration, today, announced the hiring of Cecelia M. Carter as the new Executive Director of the Seattle City Employees’ Retirement System. Councilmember McIver said, “I am very pleased that we have found a new Executive Director of the caliber of Ms. Carter. I am confident that she will continue the stellar record of our retirement system.”
Since 2002, Ms. Carter has been the CEO of the Public School Retirement System of the School District of Kansas City, Missouri, an $838 million public pension fund serving approximately 10,000 members. In that time period, Ms. Carter has implemented investment strategy changes that increased portfolio assets by 52 percent. Before 2002, Ms. Carter worked at Merrill Lynch in Englewood, Colorado and First Trust Corporation in Denver, Colorado.
The Seattle City Employees’ Retirement System has 10,493 current employee members, and 5,093 retirees and beneficiaries. It does not include police officers or firefighters. The system manages approximately $2.1 billion in assets, and has a retiree payroll of more than $7 million per month. The Seattle Retirement System is led by a seven-member Board of Administration and an Executive Director appointed by the Board.
