DRAGO SALUTES KOREAN INDEPENDENCE DAY
Councilmember proposes Wednesday, August 15 as “Korea Day” in Seattle.

SEATTLE – On Monday, August 13th, the Council will celebrate the 62nd anniversary of the independence of the people of Korea, first with a 12:30 p.m. reception in the lobby of City Hall, followed by action at its 2 p.m. meeting in Council Chambers on Councilmember Jan Drago’s proposal to proclaim Wednesday, August 15th, 2007 as Korea Day in Seattle.

Councilmember Drago, who is sponsoring the activities, notes that Korea and Seattle have strong economic, diplomatic and cultural ties. Councilmember Jan Drago said, “The people of Korea and the United States strongly value our independence and freedom. We in Seattle value the cultural and ethnic diversity that the 100,000 Korean-Americans bring to this region.”

The reception is co-sponsored by Korea Consul General Chanho Kwon, who will accept the proclamation, and the Seattle-Taejon Sister City Association which celebrates its own 18th anniversary later this year.
