COUNCILMEMBERS RESPOND TO COURT INVALIDATION OF INITIATIVE 87
King County Superior Court says I-87 is null and void

SEATTLE –Today, King County Superior Court Judge Palmer Robinson ruled that Initiative 87, a ballot measure concerned with education funding, is invalid.

“We are pleased that the court affirmed the city council’s budget authority,” says City Councilmember Richard McIver, chair of the Finance and Budget Committee.

“The state constitution says education is the primary duty of state government,” says City Councilmember David Della, chair of the Parks, Education, Libraries and Labor Committee. “The Seattle School District has a real funding crisis on its hands and needs more resources.”

“We will join forces with the Seattle School District as they work with Governor Christine Gregoire and the Washington State Legislature to insure that Seattle’s students receive the funding they need to succeed,” says Council President Nick Licata.
