Long-time resident activist recommended for appointment to SHA board

SEATTLE Today, the City Councils Housing, Human Services and Health Committee unanimously approved the nomination of Sybil Bailey to the Seattle Housing Authority (SHA) Board of Commissioners.

Sybil Bailey, a long-time resident of Denny Terrace, was nominated by the Mayor following an extensive recruitment, application and interview process. Her experience includes 10 years as Chair of the SHA Resident Advisory Council.

Councilmember Tom Rasmussen, Chair of the committee, stated, I met with Ms. Bailey and reviewed her qualifications carefully. Her track record of supporting her fellow tenants will be an asset to the Board and the SHA residents she represents.

"I'm pleased that the committee got it right with a unanimous vote in support, said Councilmember Richard McIver. I would hope the Full Council would follow suit.

The committees approval moves the nomination to the Full Council for final action on September 5, 2006.
