City Council will Fill-the-Boot for Muscular Dystrophy Local firefighters and Councilmembers to collect donations at Westlake Center
On Friday at Westlake Center, beginning at noon, Seattle Firefighters from Station 10, along with Local 27 President Kenny Stuart, will join councilmembers Tim Burgess, Nick Licata and Tom Rasmussen, along with Council President Richard Conlin to collect donations on behalf of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), as part of their annual Fill-the-Boot event.
“This annual event provides vital support to those in Western Washington afflicted with muscular dystrophy,” said Councilmember Burgess. “I commend our local firefighters for their dedication and commitment to MDA.”
Councilmembers and firefighters will spread out throughout the area, encouraging passersby to drop a donation in their boots. This day-long, family-friendly event will include fire engine tours for kids.
The Seattle Fire Department, in conjunction with more than 20 other fire departments in the area, kicked off the 55th annual Fill-the-Boot campaign on July 10. This year’s goal is to raise more than $100,000 for the cause.
"I thank Seattle firefighters for their commitment to supporting the work of the Muscular Dystrophy Association," added Councilmember Licata.
MDA is a volunteer health agency working to defeat more than 40 forms of Muscular Dystrophy and related diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive services and far-reaching professional and public health education. MDA maintains clinics for area adults and children affected by neuromuscular diseases at Children’s Hospital Medical Center and the University of Washington Medical Center.
Council meetings are cablecast live on Seattle Channel 21 and Webcast live on the City Council’s website. Copies of legislation, archives of previous meetings, and news releases are available on http://www.seattle.gov/council/.
