2012 Review of Solid Waste, Drainage
and Wastewater Rates
On July 3, 2012, the Mayor and Seattle Public Utilities delivered their proposals for drainage, wastewater, and solid waste rate increases to the Libraries, Utilities and Center Committee (LUC).
The rate changes are driven by multiple factors including federally mandated programs to fix combined sewer overflow problems, infrastructure investments – such as a new transfer staion in North Seattle – and lower than expected revenue due to the prolonged recession.
The LUC Committee will review the rate proposals and make a final recommendation to the Council's Budget Committee by September. The rates will be adopted with the 2013 Budget.
