Select Committee on 2018 Education Levy

Select Committee on 2018 Education Levy

The 2018 Education Levy is the City of Seattle's levy to support equitable education so all of our learners, from birth to graduation, can reach their full potential. With the Families and Education Levy (2011) and the Seattle Pre-School Levy (2014), both expiring in 2018, the City of Seattle looks to renew our commitments and investments to support quality learning that is centered on closing the opportunity gap and expanding access to learning for Seattle's children and their families.

To learn more about what the current levies support, visit the City's Department of Education and Early Learning (DEEL) website: Families and Education Levy and Seattle Pre-School Program

Purpose

The Committee will consider the Executive’s proposal for a ballot measure to fund the renewal of the Families and Education Levy and the Seattle Preschool Program Levy. The Committee will:

  1. Review current and future educational needs
  2. Consider the Executive’s proposal, including the size and scope of the Levy
  3. Deliberate and make a final decision on whether to send a Levy proposal to the ballot for consideration by Seattle voters
