Eligibility
Misdemeanor offenders within the city limits of Seattle, Washington are identified at point of entry and are given the option to participate in Seattle Community Court. Eligibility is determined by the following criteria and considerations:
- Low-level, non-violent crime
- Not a present risk to public safety
- Defendant has less than three previous Community Court adjudications
- Up-front assessment of defendant's appropriateness to the alternate sanctions
The Assistant City Attorney reviews each potential participant's criminal history, and, if the eligibility criteria are met, may make a recommendation that they be offered the opportunity to participate in Community Court.
