Welcome to the City Light Advisory Committee Web site City Ordinance 122197 established the six-member Seattle City Light Advisory Committee to provide electric utility industry expertise to the Mayor, City Council and City Light Superintendent. Three members (Tim Hogan, Don Wise and Robin Calhoun) are appointed by Mayor Greg Nickels and three (Bill Alves, Carol Arnold and Eugene Wasserman) by the Seattle City Council. The Committee members represent a broad range of experience and expertise in the electric utility industry and in regional and national energy issues (member bios). The Committee works on projects contained in a work plan developed collaboratively with the Mayor, Council and City Light Superintendent and is required to produce a written report, including recommendations and summarizing activities of the previous year, by no later than January 31. The 2007 work plan and January 2008 Annual Report focused on five broad issues: financial policy; reliability; resource acquisition; risk management and human resources. In the January 2008 Annual Report the Committee concluded that, "City Light is moving in the right direction but as recommendations will show, further significant work needs to be done". The Committee's January 2009 Annual Report is a departure from earlier efforts in that it provides a comprehensive assessment of the City’s progress toward implementation of recommendations made over the years by the Committee and, earlier, the Advisory Board. In addition to this assessment, the report attempts to identify barriers that have impeded progress and offers recommendations to keep moving forward.
