Notice of Judicial Vacancy

As a result of Judge Karen Donohue’s appointment to King County Superior Court, there will be a vacant judicial position in the City of Seattle Municipal Court. Qualifications for the position of judge in Washington State may be found in Revised Code of Washington (RCW) 35.20.150 and in Seattle Municipal Code (SMC) 3.33.110.

Applications are being accepted to fill the unexpired judicial term, which ends December 31, 2018.

The Judicial Evaluation Questionnaire is available here. Individuals who meet the qualifications and are interested in being considered for the judicial appointment shall submit their completed questionnaire and supplemental materials electronically to the Seattle City Clerk no later than March 9, 2018, at the following email address:

Individuals who have fully completed the questionnaire and provided the requested materials will be considered. All candidates are strongly encouraged to seek judicial evaluations from the King County Bar Association and specialty bar associations.

A selection committee has been established with representatives from the Loren Miller Bar Association, Latina/o Bar Association of Washington, Asian Bar Association of Washington, the Public Defender Association, the City Attorney's Office, and the Washington State Bar Association Board of Governors.  The Committee will forward a pool of candidate nominees to Mayor Jenny Durkan for her selection of an appointee, subject to confirmation by City Council.
