Monica Martinez Simmons, Seattle City Clerk

Monica Martinez Simmons was appointed City Clerk in July 2010. The City Clerk works in partnership with City agencies and stakeholders, advancing principles of inclusive access. Monica serves as the Administrative Head of the Legislative Department and Clerk to the City Council. She is the first Latina to serve the City of Seattle as City Clerk.

Under Monica's direction, the  Office of the City Clerk's Vision, Mission, and Goals promote the integrity of the structure of our democracy through stewardship of the legislative process and by ensuring preservation of, and access to, municipal records.

Monica has served in professional leadership positions throughout her career including as President of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC), a non-profit, education-based organization serving over 14,000 members representing municipalities in North America and 15 other countries.
