Permanent Exhibit

  • One Song, Many Voices 
    Wing Luke Asian Museum, Seattle. The Museum’s centerpiece exhibit depicts the 200-year story of the immigration and settlement of Asians and Pacific Islanders in Washington State, from the first Hawaiian settlers to more recent immigrants and refugees from Southeast Asia.

April 22 thru September 3

  • Maya Lin: Systemic Landscapes 
    Henry Art Gallery, University of Washington. The artist who created the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C. has a show of new sculptures, drawings and large-scale installations. 'Systemic Landscapes' focuses on a trio of large-scale sculptural installations that offer a different means for viewers to encounter and comprehend the landscape.

March 16 thru June 18

  • Rozome Masters of Japan 
    Bellevue Art Museum. Rozome, or Japanese batik (wax dyeing), dates back to the eight century A.D. Since its inception, Rozome has gone through cycles of popularity, but is flourishing today in modern Japan. A truly unique form of contemporary Japanese art, Rozome has rarely been seen in the West. This exhibition of textiles and kimonos features the work of fifteen distinguished Japanese artists working in a variety of styles.

  • Asian Pacific American Heritage Month 2006 Celebration 
    City of Seattle and King County partner to host a special lunchtime event "Thousands of Journeys: Building Community" to honor the contributions of Asian Pacific Americans. Bertha Knight Landes Room (City Hall), 600 Fourth Ave. Seattle, 11:30 a.m - 1:00 p.m. Event program and flyer. Watch The Seattle Channel video of this event.

May 24 thru May 31

  • Renewal of America 
    1st floor lobby of Seattle City Hall (near entrance of Bertha Knight Landes Room), 600 4th Avenue. “Renewal of America” is a tribute to Asian Americans who had the courage to come to the United States to leave “back home” for a better life -- be it for freedom from political and/or social oppression, freedom from the violence of war or for want of a better life, bringing with them their deep passion for freedom, democracy and equality. The 17 panel collection of photos and narrative depict Asian Pacific Americans who came after 1965.

May 28

  • 47th Annual Greater Seattle Japanese Community Queen Scholarship Program Pageant 
    The queen carries two titles -- Greater Seattle Japanese Community Queen and the Seattle Cherry Blossom and Japanese Cultural Festival Queen -- and represents the community at the Seafair Scholarship program. This year's pageant is set for 7 p.m., Sunday, May 28, 2006 at the Meydenbauer Theatre in Bellevue.   • Powerdance Centennial Celebration 
    In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Filipino presence in America; a fundraiser for the Filipino Community of Seattle. Benaroya Hall, Nordstrom Recital Hall, 200 University St., Seattle, 2:00 p.m.
