Celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month
Welcome to the first City of Seattle and King County joint effort in celebrating Asian Pacific American Heritage
Month. In May we acknowledge and celebrate the contributions of immigrant,
refugee, and American born Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.
Our theme Thousands of Journeys: Building Community commemorates the
numerous journeys and struggles experienced by Asian American and Pacific
Islander communities. We hope to enlighten, heal, and build our community by celebrating our journeys collectively.
Please join us May 24 at Seattle City Hall for a special
lunchtime event, 11 - 1:30 p.m. Enjoy cultural
performances, multi-ethnic foods, exhibits, a panel of Asian Pacific American
community members, and a tribute to the memory and spirit of Marilyn
Laigo Senour. The
first
Uncle Bob Santos Community Builder Award
will also be presented, with Uncle Bob as our first recipient to inspire continued community-building efforts and socio-economic justice.
And be sure to view the "Renewal
of America" exhibit on display thru May 31 in
the 1st flr lobby area of Seattle City
Hall. Watch The Seattle Channel
video
of this event.
We encourage you to become better informed
about Asian American and Pacific Islander people and issues in your community - and get
involved!
The Learn More section of this website includes
videotaped interviews, AAPI demographics, history, organizations, agencies, and news sources.
