The design style of the Northwest Coast Native art is used by Preston Singletary for his glass creations. This hand-blown and sand-carved shape is based on an inverted traditional Tlingit hat. The raven is representational and commonly used as subject matter in the artist's work. As expressed by Singletary, "working with these designs gives me a sense of purpose while paying homage to my family and my ancestors. By researching my family/tribe, I have a stronger foundation by comparing an older understanding of the world and how it works to my current notion of society."
