Five Citizens: Jennifer
1998-99

Hand-knotted wool and silk
36" x 36"

Seattle City Light Portable Works Collection

This tapestry is from a larger body of artwork consisting of five portraits in symbols of ordinary Seattle citizens. Jennifer Hong, symbolically depicted in this fine woven tapestry, feels a strong affinity with water. It is, in fact, her area of specialization as an engineer. Her aesthetic tastes run towards clean spaces and simple lines. The Korean text, penned by her father, reads "simplicity." The band containing crosses represents Jennifer among her family.
