In Thomas's design, a raven formed from strong, expressive lines "shouts" the word water, a natural resource which SPU provides. Recognizing that the image on the hatch cover will be more or less visible depending on the time of day and weather conditions, Thomas has given the literal image a degree of abstraction in order to capitalize on the dynamic created by the approaching pedestrian's environment.
