The interaction between humans and marine life as well as the importance of the water cycle are accentuated on the hatch cover designed by Best-Spadaro. Whales, orcas and salmon represent different bodies of water while human's swim peacefully alongside them, highlighting the need for clean water for all creatures. The series of concentric rings that make up the composition represent different stages in the water cycle, aspects of which Seattle Public Utilities stewards.
