Beckoning Cistern is a sculpture component of the "Growing Vine Street" revitalization effort, which involved property owners, neighborhood groups, and various City departments, including Seattle Public Utilities (SPU), to create a "green street."

The galvanized aluminum cistern, shaped like an open hand, collects roof water flow from the 81 Vine Street Building, and, when full, spills the water into an adjacent planter. Demonstrating "green" practices, the sculpture reinforces and brings public awareness to SPU's water conservation efforts. It also demonstrates natural cleansing of stormwater through planted drainage systems, also integral to SPU's mission.
