Working together with geologists surveying the site, Fels recreated in iron an actual sample of earth drawn from 15 feet below the site. Called Geo-Slice, the sculpture exhibits the stratification of the ground, each layer telling a story spanning thousands of years of ice-age lake silt, ancient clams and mussel shell deposits, a volcanic mudflow and a major earthquake.
