Peter Reiquam's artwork creates an open-air living room on the edge of Froula Playground. A carpet of grass gives way to scored concrete, creating a homey nook that is separate from the natural surroundings. The space invites conversation and still feels appropriate for the outdoor playground. Cast from concrete, two angular armchairs and a boxy end table form a sitting area, embraced by a curving wall of cultured stone. The artwork forms a setting with an intimate feeling of domestic comfort. Located at Seattle Public Utilities' (SPU) Green Lake Reservoir property, the seating area is also a convenient al fresco break room for SPU employees working at the adjacent hypochlorite facility. Enjoyed by all types of visitors and framed against a backdrop of neighborhood rooftops and trees, this unusual take on traditional furnishings feels fittingly at home.
