Mayor's Arts Awards ceremony, Aug. 31
Celebrate the 2007 Mayor's Arts Awards recipients with Mayor Greg Nickels and tour the Bumbershoot Visual Arts Exhibits. The celebration begins at noon, Friday, Aug. 31 at Seattle Center's Northwest Court. The special event is free and open to the public. The visual arts exhibits will remain open until 6 p.m. in the Northwest Rooms.
Seattle Channel's Nancy Guppy will host the fifth annual Mayor's Arts Awards ceremony, noon to 1 p.m., followed by the Bumbershoot PreFunk! Party, featuring conversations and performances by Bumbershoot artists and performers in advance of the Labor Day weekend festival's Sept. 1 opening. The awards ceremony and Bumbershoot PreFunk Party! will be broadcast live on Seattle Channel, cable channel 21.
The 2007 Mayor's Arts Award recipients are Clarence Acox, director of jazz bands at Garfiled High School and its renowned jazz ensemble; Earshot Jazz and its Executive Director John Gilbreath; Jean Griffith, founding member and former director of Pottery Northwest; Longhouse Media's Native Lens Program; Massive Monkees, a hip-hop breakdance crew; literary arts center Richard Hugo House; and Seattle Art Museum and Director Mimi Gardner Gates.
The Mayor's Arts Awards are presented in partnership with Bumbershoot®: Seattle's Music and Arts Festival and primary media sponsor Encore Arts Programs, the magazine proudly serving performing arts organizations throughout the Puget Sound.
