Seattle Public Schools welcomes new community arts liaison
Kathleen Allen is the new community arts liaison for Seattle Public Schools (SPS). She is the second member of the district arts leadership team taking shape under the
Arts Education Partnership Initiative launched this year by the city of Seattle and Seattle Public Schools.
Pamela Ivezic became district music specialist in March.
Kathleen is the primary contact for cultural groups interested in working in Seattle schools. She will solicit and manage grant funding, provide support to teachers and administrators, develop opportunities to showcase student work, and increase communication with arts education stakeholders.
Kathleen earned an undergraduate degree in art history from Vassar College and a Master of Education degree from Harvard University. She brings 15 years of experience developing educational programs and resources for cultural organizations. Kathleen has worked as a consultant with organizations including
Arts Impact, Powerful Arts Coalition,
Experience Music Project,
Seattle Architecture Foundation and the
Washington State Arts Commission. She also managed school and teacher programs at the
Seattle Art Museum.
Kathleen has certificates in program evaluation and distance learning from the University of Washington. She has served on the boards of
ArtsEd Washington and
Allied Arts Seattle. Most recently, she was a research associate with Baker Evaluation Research Consulting, Inc., where she participated in evaluations of arts education organizations and schools.
Save the date for the Arts Education Forum, Oct. 30
The Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs, the Seattle Arts Commission Education Committee and Seattle Public Schools will hold the Fifth Annual Arts Education Forum, 7 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 30, at the
Seattle Asian Art Museum, 1400 East Prospect St., in Volunteer Park.
Learn about the accomplishments of the Arts Education Partnership Initiative. The initiative was launched in 2008 by the city and the school district to help provide access to arts education for all students in Seattle Public Schools. Hear from Superintendent Maria Goodloe-Johnson, Chief Academic Officer Carla Santorno and District Arts Manager Carri Campbell. Meet the newest members of the school district's arts team. Mayor Greg Nickels will open the forum.
