Please join the
Seattle Public Schools (SPS) Visual and Performing Arts Department for an overview of the first districtwide review of arts learning and teaching in Seattle's public schools. Data and findings provide a high-level picture of arts instruction and access in schools, with attention to issues of equity.
This baseline study was one of the first goals of the
Arts Education Partnership between the district, the
Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs and the
Seattle Arts Commission. The partnership formally launched in 2008.
Key findings and recommendations are based on analysis of the data in five areas: arts instruction and activities; resources for arts teaching and activities; barriers to the arts; policy and assessment; and attitudes regarding the arts.
Two upcoming meetings will address specific groups.
