Seattle Animal Shelter Virtual Tour

The Seattle Animal Shelter, built in 1982, is located in the Interbay area of Seattle in the shadow of the Space Needle. This facility is a self-contained operation and houses administration, pet licensing, enforcement, animal care and the spay and neuter clinic.

Before choosing to adopt the right dog (or cat for that matter), the Seattle Animal Shelter recommends asking yourself the following questions:

  • Am I ready to make a long-term commitment of 10 to 20 years?
  • Is the animal right for my household or living environment?
  • Who will be the primary caretaker for the animal?
  • Can I afford the cost of food, pet supplies, veterinary bills and training?

"I have served this organization in different capacities since 1990. When I assumed my current position in 1996, I realized it would be difficult to achieve our potential unless we became a community-based organization with an active volunteer network."

"By early 1998, we began aggressive volunteer and foster care programs, and we now have over 600 volunteers and foster parents working to improve the lives of orphaned animals. In the last six years, we’ve been blessed to receive over $500,000 dollars from thousands of caring individuals, enabling us to improve animal welfare, reduce pet overpopulation and promote a more enjoyable environment for dogs to exercise in the city of Seattle ."

We are fortunate to have a van for the volunteers to use. Dogs are taken to Tiger Mountain for hiking and Greenlake for walks in the park in our van. It is used to transport materials and animals to the many events that we participate in.
