SPU completed installation of a new pipe to manage stormwater and sewage in the South Park neighborhood.
Many homes in the South Park community experience sewage backups during periods of extended or heavy rain, and flooding is often seen near homes and businesses. These backups and flooding problems are due, in large part, to limited capacity to convey sewage and stormwater during relatively large storm events.
SPU examined various options to avoid further disruption along 14th Avenue South, including a route through several private properties. However, the private property route would have impacted eleven private properties, potentially cost significantly more, and forever restrict those homeowners from building on their property easements.
For these reasons, SPU determined that the best option was to install a new, larger pipe to collect stormwater and sewage under 14th Avenue South, between South Concord and South Donovan, and west under Donovan to 12th Avenue South.
