Water Utility Climate Alliance
SPU is an active leader within the water utility sector on the management implications of climate change. It currently chairs the Water Utility Climate Alliance, a group of ten urban water utilities that collaborate on enhancing the usefulness of climate science and on improving decision-making in the face of uncertainty.

National Climate Assessment
Every 6 years, as mandated by the Global Change Research Act of 1990, the National Climate Assessment (NCA) informs the nation about the state of the climate, observed trends and anticipated changes across multiple sectors and regions in the U.S. SPU’s staff lead for climate change serves on the federal advisory committee that oversees the development of the NCA, was a convening lead author for the water resources chapter, a lead author for the adaptation chapter and a convening lead author for the sustained assessment special report.

Climate Impacts Research Consortium
Funded by NOAA’s RISA program and based at Oregon State University, Climate Impacts Research Consortium (CIRC) provides information and tools for Pacific Northwest decision makers about landscape and watershed management under climate change. CIRC focuses on working closely with stakeholders, including SPU, to form research agendas, assemble expertise, design decision support tools, and generalize results for other applications.

Northwest Regional Modeling Consortium
The Northwest Regional Modeling Consortium (NRMC) is a group of local, state, and federal agencies that work together to improve operational high-resolution environmental prediction over the Pacific Northwest. SPU supports the development of custom weather forecasting products, including Seattle RainWatch, through NRMC membership.

Climate Impacts Group
Part of the University of Washington’s College of the Environment, the Climate Impacts Group (CIG) studies the impacts of climate variability and change on the Pacific Northwest. SPU has worked with CIG in the past to obtain downscaled climate data and assess regional climate and hydrologic impacts.
