Airport Way South Phase II - South Royal Brougham Way to South Dearborn Street

Project Update: July 26, 2011

Project Nearly Complete

The 2010 project to pave Airport Way South from South Royal Brougham Way to South Dearborn Street is nearly complete.  In late summer 2011 the contractor will return to stripe segments of the roadway.

The project was due to wrap up late last year but inclement weather and unforeseen circumstances impacted the schedule.  Updates will be posted here as they are confirmed.

Project Overview

The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) is continuing its work to improve streets and help keep traffic moving when major construction gets underway on the Alaskan Way Viaduct. On March 22, 2010 SDOT began making a series of improvements to Airport Way South from South Spokane Street to South Dearborn Street. This street serves as a major north/south freight corridor in the SODO/Duwamish area. This project along with other paving projects going on in the area are funded by the “Bridging the Gap” transportation levy approved by Seattle voters in November 2006. Phase I of the Airport Way S is complete.  Phase II construction began August 9, 2010. Substantial completion was planned for December 2010 however, inclement weather contributed to shifting some limited remaining work to 2011.
