Mercer West construction began in April 2013. Mercer West will complete the City’s vision for a direct, two-way connection between I-5 and 5th Ave. W continuing the segment of work constructed by the Mercer East Project. Along with new crossings of Aurora Avenue provided by the Alaskan Way Viaduct Replacement Program, it will greatly enhance the connection between the South Lake Union urban center and the Uptown urban center, including Seattle Center. In its final configuration, Mercer St. will maintain three lanes in each direction between 5th Ave. N and I-5. All lanes will be operational by the summer of 2015. Until that time, Mercer St. will operate in a temporary configuration with two lanes in each direction.
