2009 Bridge Painting Projects

University Bridge (2009): The purpose of this project was to extend the life of the University Bridge. The project included washing, removing rust and damaged paint, applying primer paint where necessary and repainting all of the structural steel on the University Bridge. The bridge railings and light and power poles were also repainted. The project included the entire bascule: all of the steel on the south end and the steel-only portions of the north end. It also included painting the stairway handrails.

Jose Rizal Bridge (2007): The project will help preserve the steel parts of the Jose Rizal Bridge. The entire project, which began in August 2007 and is now complete, included pressure washing, removing rust and damaged paint, and repainting all the structural steel below the bridge and at street level. The Jose Rizal Bridge is located on 12th Avenue South between South Charles Street and South Weller Street.

The Bridge Structure at 2nd Avenue Extension South & South Jackson Street (2007): This project was for the preservation and maintenance of the bridge located at the intersection of S. Jackson Street and 2nd Avenue Extension S. The bridge was pressure washed to remove rust and damaged paint and all structural steel below the bridge was repainted along with the the galvanized steel railings at the street level.

Siren Tower at Phinney Avenue N. & N. 67th Street (2007): This project provided for the preservation and maintenance of the Siren Tower located at the intersectionof Phinney Avenue N. and N. 67th Street. SDOT pressure washed, removed rust and damaged paint, and repainted the entire structure.
