2008 Arterial Asphalt & Concrete Program
Project Description
Each year, SDOT repaves a number of streets to improve the pavement condition and promote smoother, safer, and quieter streets. In 2008, we are repaving Fifth Avenue. This project is part of the “Bridging the Gap” transportation levy approved by Seattle voters in November 2006. The project replaces asphalt, repairs the concrete or brick base beneath it, and adds new or upgraded curb ramps. The brick pavers between Pine Street and Olive Way will remain. Many existing drainage grates are being replaced with “bicycle friendly” grates that do not trap bicycle tires, and traffic signal detector loops are being upgraded to sense bicycles waiting for traffic signals. After paving is completed, SDOT will coordinate with adjacent property owners about the installation of street trees. Please call 684-TREE if you have an interest in tree selection. Project Location
