WHAT IS THE DUI SQUAD? The primary function of the DUI Squad is to detect, arrest, process and assist in the prosecution of alcohol and other drug impaired drivers. The expertise developed by the DUI officers is often critical to the successful prosecution of these cases. Two members of the DUI squad are certified Drug Recognition Experts (DRE's). This extensive training has enhanced their ability to evaluate and arrest drivers who are impaired by drug substances other than alcohol, which allows the squad to focus on a segment of impaired drivers who previously have avoided prosecution due to a low or non-existent BAC (Blood Alcohol Content) reading. Annually, the DUI officers arrest and process in excess of 1,000 DUI drivers. SUCCESSES OF THE TASKFORCE Drunk Net 2006 took place from December 8, 2006 through the first of the year, partening patrol officers, drug recognition officers and the DUI squad to place special emphasis on DUI's over the holidays. Drunk Net contacted over 1,700 motorists, made a total of 202 impaired driver arrests. |
