Seattle Weed & Seed Program HISTORY of SOUTHWEST SITE Seattle's Central site, which is located in SPD’s East Precinct, was one of the first sites to receive the Weed & Seed designation in 1992. Current “Weed” strategies include the partnership among the Seattle Police Department, the State Department of Corrections (DOC) and the community. Through this partnership, special emphasis is placed on furthering community involvement in tracking and advising DOC on offenders returning to the community. Resources within the site additionally support relevant workforce development skills for adults, case manager services in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, comprehensive educational enrichment services in Yesler Terrace, and Donut Dialogues. Donut Dialogues are conflict resolution education sessions that promote increased communication between street involved youth, business owners, residents, and police in the Broadway/Capitol Hill neighborhood. Central Seattle is currently in its last year of receiving federal funding to implement Weed & Seed strategies. However, Weed & Seed Steering Committee members, site residents, and community partner agency staff have been meeting for several months to develop a long-range plan to continue implementing components of the Weed & Strategy, without the benefit of federal funding.
